An i5 2500 is still a burly CPU specially if you over clock it which it easily does, That said the newer i5s are faster out of the box (marginally anyway) and run cooler, but IIRC don't OC as well but are still very good.

IMO its all about how much it costs compared to the newer CPUS you wont notice much of a difference.

The 2500 is a little out of date, heavy emphasis on a little.

3.3ghz that self OCs to 3.7ghz is plenty for 90% of serious gamers out there.

IMO it's an excellent choice for gaming. What graphics card do you plan to use?

Its a great processor for gaming, overclocked or not. But as of right now newegg has a deal going on.. you can get the Intel Core i5-3570K cheaper then the i5 2500k.

Not sure how long that will be going on though.. it could be over before you even see this.
