Nvidia 670 or AMD 7970

Which would people choose?

I'm unsure what to pick as the two cards are very close in price. I will not be needing much compute power and I will be gaming at 1080p or 1440p (I haven't chosen a monitor yet). I don't mind overclocking myself, all cards listed apart from the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Windforce are at stock speeds.

670 options:
Palit GTX 670 2GB Price: £295
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Windforce Price: £310-320
Asus GeForce GTX 670 DirectcuII Price £320-330

7970 options:
HIS HD 7970 Price: £335
PowerColor HD 7970 V3 Price: £348

Currently I'm leaning towards the Asus 670 but would like your opinions.

Thanks for the help, Rob.

More about nvidia 7970
  1. i'd get the 670 it is cheaper, runs slightly faster then 7970 in some games they are neck to neck..
  2. If you are going to game at 1080p get the 670.Its cheaper nad in some games faster. If you are going to game at 1440 or 1600p the HD7970 is going to perform a bit better but still no significant difference.
You cant go wrong either one of them.
  3. Thanks, I think I'll go with a 670 as I had another look at my budget it may not quite reach the Dell u2711 I wanted. I also have never owned a Nvidia card so it will be something new.

Any particular models out of the 670 choices that are better?

    Thanks for the answers.
  4. better to get non reference models if you are overclocker ... and brands .. well :

    Asus
    EVGA
MSI ... they are best for me
  5. Reference for watercooling! ;)
  6. @OP, 670 is best option for you, btw what are your specs?
  7. Sorry meant to post in first post

    I7 920 @ 3.8Ghz
    12GB G.Skill 1600mhz cas9 Ram
    Asus P6X58D-E Motherboard
    Cosair TX650 watt psu
    ATI 4850

    EDIT:

Going to go with the Asus for £313, I don't think there much point spending an extra £27 for the TOP version.

Decided on a monitor as well, the AOC i2353Fh LCD IPS 23"

Thanks for all your help :)
