First off we don't know your budget so we can not tell you which laptop to get. We can tell you which brand to look at and not to look at. But the GPU in 98% of laptops you will not be able to upgrade it.

I like MSI laptops and some dell ones are maybe ok. HP makes a good one. That is it for my choice but other people will have there choices as well. So I am going to link you to two sites.

The first site is the hierarchy of GPU's. You will need to be looking at the mobility for example a 610m is a GPU same thing for CPU's. You will be able to tell. I do wish you good luck on this. Cheers.

Hi ,
Ah..dollars...missed that, Well I would like something that is equivalent to my current desktop, perhaps a slight upgrade in graphics performance. Minecraft runs ok on my desktop but, a slight lag for a few seconds once in while.
Dell XPS 410 with a 1gb Gt 220 by galaxy...low end gpu, but low power too.
I was hoping to find cheap, like an old DDR2 laptop that had good performance but
at a clearance price, because the technology is old. 350 is my max price.
A guy at work bought a Toshiba normally 450 got it for 350 on a sale, but I dont think for that price the graphics could run minecraft.

Is there a site that compares Desktops to a laptop equivalent ?

Go take a look at the Asus N53 series notebooks.

On a per discrete mobile video card... I'd say you need something in the range of a GT330M, GT425M, GT525M, GT625M in the nVidia camp and HD4550M, HD5450M, HD6630M, HD7650M or better from the AMD/ATI camp. This is thinking of minecraft, off course, but if you want to play something else, they'll be able to cope with it.

Here's a site that lists mobile cards and has a nice hierarchy for it (using the GT525M link):

Cheers!

I suspect your productivity will drop off sharply once you get a new laptop. I'd be playing D3 right now if the servers weren't down for maintenance. Thankfully, my old gt 120m can play D3 with an average 45FPS at the lowest settings. I am going to have to get back to doing work soon:(

You can go to a site were you can look at some laptops new and refurbished laptops and that site is geeks.com. You can also look on tigerdirect.com for the same things.

I bought my laptop from geeks.com refurbished and it runs like a charm. There is always ebay. Sometimes these second hand shops buy up a lot of older laptops and turn around and sell them refurbished.

I bought my Dell from geeks.com and paid $250.00 for it and it does play card games and some arcade games but I wasn't looking for it to play the games of today. They have better laptops. Just a few ideas for you. And good luck to you.
