A while back, these forums helped me in upgrading a Dell 530 to play games, I'll be building my first gaming rig from the ground up pretty soon and wanted to make sure all the components would work together.

Here what I have so far.

Tower- COOLER MASTER HAF 912

CPU-AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor

GPU-Nvidia GTX 550ti

PSU-COOLER MASTER 650w

HD-Samsung by Seagate Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ/ST500DM005 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

RAM-CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

OS-Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

I haven't decided on a motherboard yet, but It'll will probably be something from Gigabyte. If I already have the GPU and the PSU, is there any way to get this build below $500?

Save the money and either get a Athlon x3 or get a FX-4100... the X3 can be unlocked, and the 4100 is cheaper and performs just as good... and just get a 1TB WD...

Otherwise I think your cool... oh yea, this is a cheaper case... You can probably find a 600 watt ThermalTake PSU for a much better price than a CoolerMaster.

Another thing, get the RC of Windows 8 and buy it when it comes out.

The Athlon can have its 4th core unlocked and L3 cache unlock... thus making it a Phenom...

It would help if you filled out this form: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/353572-31-build-upgrade-advice

Specifically, I'd like to know what games you're looking to play. But, I wouldnt use a Cooler Master power supply at all.
