Hello.

I am looking to upgrade from a GTX 285 1GB.

I have a 2.8GHz C2Q Q6600 and was hoping anyone could tell me what would be the best card for me. Im planning on playing GTA IV.

On another forum people keep telling me to stick with what i have because my setup is perfectly fine for gta iv.

My specs:

CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.8GHz
Mobo: XFX 780i 3-way SLI
GPU: XFX GTX 285 1GB (Overclocked during gameplay)
RAM: 4GB DDR2 800MHz (Brand is RAmos which i have never heard of so please let me know if you have info)
HDD: 500GB Sata
PSU: 650w Thermaltake Toughpower
Case: Antec DF-10

The real question here is, is it worth upgrading my GPU specifically for GTA IV or is my system really going to be able to run it how it is.

Thanks for any help it is much appreciated

The only worthwhile upgrade from the GTX 285 is GTX 570/HD 6970 & up. Anything below these will not warrant worthwhile improvement relative to your expense.

What is your current fps when playing GTA IV with the GTX 285?

You can also add a 7850 in there for a decent upgrade also.

Sorry if i caused confusion. I currently have not played GTA IV on this system yet. Will my cpu bottleneck a gtx 570/ HD 6970?

^Oh sorry. It is my fault. I missed the "planning" part. I think the best way to find out is to play it with the GTX 285. After all it is a fine GPU even in today's standard. It will not be stellar but based on its performance with GTA IV, you can decide if you still want to spend money now.

Your CPU is fine even even with the GTX570/HD6970/GTX480/7850.

Thank you loonium that very very helpfull indeed. I did not think this GPU was faster than the 4870. Especially in pretty much every possible way. Considering that the 4870 was on average at 58 fps with a Q6600 @ 2.40ghz, leaves me wondering i should be able to run it with no problems what so ever since my CPU is @ 2.8GHz and GPU is alot faster, and overclocked. Your very helpfull. I would select your answer as best more than once if i could.

Cheers mate
