GTX 670/680... what about drivers performance boost ?

i have only one simple question ... models like GTX 570 and 580 and other old 500 cards to... got like 20-30% performance boost in games ... like skyrim , BF3 , crysis 2 and more .... can we expect same story for GTX 670 and GTX 680 ? and other kelper cards ? Will new nvidia drivers boost that performance up to 25% in games like skyrim , BF3 ,Crysis 2 ??? I ask because drivers for 670/680 are still beta ... and 500 cards get benefits from drivers even after 1 year after relese ... so will 600 series get same performace boost ? ^^

I personally wouldn't allow the likely-hood of drivers improving performance to effect your purchasing decisions, its certainly not guaranteed, just likely due to the 670/680 being completely different architecture.

wow great .... even if 400 series got benefits from 300 version drivers ... then yeah .. seems like it's possible ^^

your 480 beast !!! it's oced but never saw below 30 fps ^^

how is this card so storng omg ... 2 years old card and can max this demainding game above 30 fps on full ultra

cause of never architecture maybe they will even get better performance boost ^^ ?

for example ... 400 series got much benefit from 300 version drivers then 200 series ... or not really ^^ ?

Who really knows? We don't know if the current drivers are taking advantage fully of Kepler's architecture.

All we can do is make educated predictions based on history, and history tells us you should see at least a small performance boost from newer drivers with a new architecture.

but it will made some performace for sure yes ? like 10% minimum ?

because some games old generations runs same as 600 series ... for example metro 2033 .... yes i know it's bad optimized but anyway .. not a big difference between 580 and 670/680 in metro :(

I haven't studied Kepler's architecture or how nVidia's drivers work so I couldn't tell you for sure.

Based on what we've seen in the past I would predict a ~15% increase in performance in some games at particular in-game settings.
Don't take my word as absolute truth, its just an educated guess at best.

sure ... no one knows what will happen in the future for 100% sure ... even people from nvidia ... i just wanted to know expected perforamnce boost based form older generations ^^

some people told me that 580 has same problem at start .. it was to close to 480 .. but after new drivers it got peformance boost and differnece between 480 and 580 is bigger now ...

ups ...then you will be bottleneked by Vram in bf3 and crysis 2 even with your gtx 480 in sli :( (( sad that your gpu's have only 1.5 gb vram .. with 2gb you will have no problem :(  ......

and what you want to buy ^^ ??? if you sell your 2 480 you will got 1 nice gpu for sure ^^

wtf .. how 19 inch can run at 2560x1600 !!! i had 19 myself ... and i ran on 1280X1080 ;////////////////////////////////

Cryssis 2 with dx 11 ? um and with high resolution textures to :o  ?? hm ....

480 are fukin powerfull :(  sad .. i don't have sli mainboard to buy them ...

I got my 2 gtx 480's powering up my 3 23" monitors at 5760x1080 and i can crank everything ive played so far.Havent tried battlefield 3 yet but it will be faster then my 7970 single card for sure since crossfire didnt work well for me.

It will more than likely happen, although they are different architectures (fermi and kepler).
Fermi may be better in some games than Kepler, although it would seem doubtful.

My 480's saw a large bump in performance from 301.42, so i presume the whole array of Nvidia Geforce GPU's will see a tastey bump.

BAH! totally causes a stutter in FC2 for me . .rolled back.

of coarse if i didn't play old games maybe it would be different ;P

omg .. how is this possible .. still confusing ;///

seems like vram is useless :) )) then even 4g gb versions for 3 monitors are useless if you can use 2gb with no problem ^^

that card will match gtx 480 in sli :) ) if we forget about vram ^^

i will check that to .. but you don't need such big resolution on 19 inc monitor .. you will not notice any difference :)

even gtx 680 has like 40 fps dips on crysis 2 even at 1920x1080 :o  how can you run it with no lag on your resolution ........ driver performance boost ??? :) ))

try to bench BF3 on that resolution ... it will be interesting ... will you got bottleneck or not ^^ use 4X msaa ofc

Because 2 gtx 480's at 850 mhz overclock will kill a single gtx 680.

even at stock clocks i think :) ) now 480 is best bang for buck ... sad that im hog and want to buy 670 :) )) 480 will be better performance/price

480 i most driver optimized DX 11 card now :) )) over 2 years of driver work.. we will see how good will be 670/680 after 1-2 year ^^

Ya i got ripped to shreds in another thread when i tried to reccomend a gtx 480 to someone over a 7850.Im tired of the bashing these things get.Ill admitt i got non reference ones but thats because i wanted to overclocked the crap out of them.I would still reccomend the 480 for the $250 and under price range.
May 29, 2012 11:22:49 AM

480 is just old .. nothing more ;//////// maybe GTX 660 will replace 480/570 at 250$ price point .. but now .... only advantage of 7850 is 512 more vram ...

Compared to the GTX480 it also uses less power, runs cooler and quieter, However if you don't care about those aspects then the GTX480 is a bargin.
May 29, 2012 11:55:27 AM

oh one more thing ....

that cards with DX 11.1 like 7000 and 600 series .. will perform better on windows 8 ? :)  will they get performance boost ?

cooler yes quieter?no My non reference 480's never go above 70 celcius by themself heck the galaxy doesnt break 60 but in sli the top card hits 85 celcius which is really decent for a 480.Im not getting why people think even the reference 480 is loud i barely heard my reference evga at 100% fan speed.compared to my 7970 it was very quiet

BFBC2 ? no surprise here ^^ 480s are strong enough to handle it ... what about BF3 ? :) ) even drivers will not help you if you will be bottleneked by vram .. let's see ^^

even reference werent that loud at all.My 7970 was louder at 60% fan speed then my reference evga 480 at 100%.Ive owned both and was wondering how all these loud rumors got started.Heck even my gtx 260 was louder alot louder.

seems like AA is GPU killer like allways :) )) but not bad with 480s !! vram usage was maximum on your resolution.... only reason of your fps dips ... turning off AA saves vram and then your cards eat this game alive ^^thnx for benchmark ^^

Well I'm not going to argue about whether or not you or I perceive the noise level of any graphics card as sound is subjective, I was basing my opinion on reviews I had read and video's I've seen.

Anyway If you think a GTX480 is quieter than a HD7850 then that's fine, how you perceive noise may be completely different to me.

what about gtx 480 sli on 2560x1600 ????

how it performs ??? if you will get good fps then even 1.5 vram is enough for 2560x1600 ^^

On standard cooling, you will see 75-85c tops, if the case is well ventilated.

On stock cooling you can do 800mhz without touching the voltages at 1038mv.

... All the same, be prepared and don't freak out if you see 92c on the temps. That's just how the Auto fan is calibrated. Do yourself a favor and really see if you can get one with aftermarket cooling, like the MSI Twin Frozr or Gigabyte SOC. With the proper cooling on a 480, its a really nice card.

62% .. not bad at all ^^ at BF3 it will be same i think ^^

how do you think .. is this good decision to get single gtx 480 and save money for maxwell ???

i can max out skyrim and bf3 on 2x msaa if i want to stay above 2x msaa ^^

my galaxy gtx 480 never hits above 62 celcius.im having a problem running the gigabyte super overclocked with the galaxy in sli they dont seem to like eachother.I actually like the galaxy better the gigabyte see's 80 celcius which isnt bad but having 3 fans i expected it to be alittle cooler
