Hello,
i am planing to make a htpc, hopefully for a budget of less than 200$, dont worry i already have a couple of parts, including a Sapphire HD 6450, which is lying unused, a dvd drive a cabinet (old acer micro atx) and psu (350 watt)....... i am leaning towards the amd athlon ii's.
I am planing to use XBMCbuntu as the os, any idea what i could use as an input device, i dont want to use keyboard and mouse, maybe something remote like??
Im in India, so i cant use newegg :(  . anyone know any alternative? Otherwise i can always ask a store i frequent to get me parts i want, so thats no problem.

(pardon my lack of knowledge)

id suggest a APU instead. they have pretty good graphics onboard. since you already bought the 6450, you can use hybird crossfire meaning that you connect the onboard GPU and the 6450 making them work together for better graphics

a nice apu id suggest is the a8 3850. if you cant afford the a8, get a a6 3650

you will need a a75 chipset motherboard to run these chips

The 'cheapest and smallest' options are the ASUS Eee Box, Zotac ZBOX, Acer Revo, etc pre-built mini PC's. $200USD is a nearly impossible price point even with reused parts.

Otherwise look for CPU/MOBO/GPU(APU) combos; examples - http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategor...

For <$200 CPU/MOBO/GPU look at the following:
Mini-ITX:
ASUS E45M1-I Deluxe - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_CPU_on_Board/E45M1...
ASUS AT5IONT-I Intel Atom D525 - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_CPU_on_Board/AT5...

mATX:
ASUS E35M1-M PRO - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_CPU_on_Board/E35M1...

Since u already have a HD 6450, perhaps a simple H61 + G530 based config?

makes more sense to use a APU for better graphics. a 6450 is equivalent to HD3000 graphics from intel

Thank you, i will probably go for an apu, probably the 3650, wont need the hybrid cross fire graphics, so i will probably be selling the card to a friend, to add to the budget.... (no i didnt buy the card for this purpose, i was using it in my main rig for a while, temporarily, until i upgraded to the sapphire 7850 oc.)

they look great, but i am building this for my mother, not tech savy at all, so i was thinking of a simple mce remote based interface, with an ir receiver.

Hmm, good luck. I don't think that HTPC tech has evolved to the point of being that friendly to non-techies yet, unless you buy a pre-made box.
