NVidia Quadro 4000 or FirePro v5900? - HELP!

I am about ready to buy a new, custom PC. I need to finalize my video card selection. I am a advanced user of Photoshop CS6 and it now includes Mercury Graphics engine. NO games. I will probably dabble in video processing next year.

I am using an NEC PA301W monitor that needs display port support for 10-bit color (14 bit LUT) and supports 2560 x 1600 res.

I am debating between nVidia Quadro 4000 or the FirePro v5900. The builder is pushing the v5900, but I've always liked nVidia......

The rest of the system:

i7 39030K processor
Asus P9X79 Deluxe motherboard
16 GB RAM
240 GB Intel 520 series SSD (may change to Crucial m4 if I can get builder to agree...)

2 TB Seagate Barracuda HD

Antec CP-850W PS

Any comments or suggestions?

  1. I have read that report a couple of times. However, I have no idea what all of those tests mean. Sometimes Photoshop is used for testing, but not here.

I read somewhere that nVidia's software and UI provides a lot more features than AMD...
  2. In general Nvidia works better with Photoshop so I would go with the Quadro.
  3. Thanks! Cost me a fortune, but I got the Quadro 4000!
  4. Yep good professional cards are not cheap.
  5. Thanks!
