I5 3470 & HD 6970 MSI Lightning

Hey you guys,

I just wanted to ask if the combo of an i5 3470 and a HD 6970 MSI Lightning is future-proof?

How long would this combo be able to play games at high settings (not ultra)?
In what number of years?

Thanks in advance!

More about 3470 6970 lightning
  1. maybe 2-3 years Depends on your resoulion
  2. Let's say on 1600*900?
  3. well i can play on high setting and that will last 2 - 3 years
  4. And when I would switch from a HD 6970 Lightning 2GB to a Sapphire HD 7850 2GB? What is the most future-proof option?
  5. well no really the hd 7850 is only little bit better than but not by much and do u already have that hd 6970 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/509?vs=549
  6. No I don't. But the thing is: the 6970 only costs 190 euros, and the 7850 200 euros. I'm really not good at deciding what's the best bang for my buck.
  7. i would go for the hd 7850
  8. Alright! Thanks for your opinion.
  9. D*mn, I just noticed that the 6970 MSI Lightning I'm talking about has a base clock speed of 940 Mhz. Isn't that significantly faster than the normal 7850? And I read somewhere that the 7850 is good for OC'ing, but wouldn't that shorten the lifespan of the GPU by a fair amount?
  10. yea the hd 7850 is a good overclocker but if ur overclocking you need a good cooler like what sapphire has or gigabite and yea it doe shorten it by a tiny bit and the hd 6970 has a higher core clock http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7870-review-benchmark,3148.html
  11. And is OC'ing not too difficult (or even dangerous) for an unexperienced person like me (when it comes to OC'ing).

Thanks for your help btw :) . I really appreciate it.
  12. no worreis
