Ram (graphics card) not as high as supposed to be ??

hi there,

so i was just doing a random check on my graphics ram by using dxdiag but it says i only have 700mb of ram when i am supposed to have 1GB of ram,
is this just a common software issue or is there something wrong?

Specs are as follows:
i5 3450
ga-p67-b3-ud3
6GB ram
HD 6870 crossfire
samsung spin point 1tb
Hiper 880 gtm (880w)

Windows Aero, desktop take some of the GPU's RAM to work, browsers need GPU RAM to display video, images and adverts, plus GPU RAM isn't always going to be exactly what it says on the box.

yeah i gathered but 300mb is quite a significant number isnt it ?
