Need help on gpu

i know this has been asked before and answered but im really confused which GPU to buy. ranging from $50 to $100. a friend gave me a guest pass on diablo 3 and the rest is history bought the game after couple of hours. i never played on the PC before.
heres my current specs
cpu-phenom ii 965 be 3.7ghz
motherboard- biostar ta785g3 hd with hd 4200 onboard gpu
ram-8 gig
psu-500w

it doesn't matter if its nvidia or amd . just looking to upgrade and get the best bang for the money. also running on 1440x900 res
but probably gonna upgrade in couple of months.

Understood lol, the OP referred to playing at 1440x900. So the OP will possibly have better frame rates as opposed to 1920x1080 in most games.

Even at 1440x900 it isn't very good :) 

1440x900 is similar resolution to 1280x1024;
1400*900 = 1260000 pixels
1280*1024 = 1310720 pixels



Note, that benchmark was done running around New Tristram. The actual frames per second number will be lower in combat.
