im wondering what would the best gpu for my system

mobo asrock n68-s3
ram 4gbs ddr3 1333m
cpu amd phemon II x4 840 3.2 and my res will be 1280 by 1024

At your resolution a 6850 is way more than enough to max out even the most demanding of games like battlefield 3. You might wanna consider a monitor upgrade soon. 1080p monitors can be had on the cheap now a days. Around $120-30 when theyre on said w/ free shipping.

Go with GTX 460 instead. It's more powerful than GTX 550 Ti and goes for around same price.

And why would you go with 700 watt power supply? Spend that extra $50 for better CPU and get something like this power supply:
