1155 VS 2011 pin + Cpu's?

Hey Guys,

Firstly i'd like to apologise if this has already been addressed or if im in the wrong thread!
Im hoping you can help me out!

Currently have a ph867-m Mobo, however, audio on it has burnt out, so i am looking to upgrade.
Id like to note that what i am looking for in my rig is:

1) To be fast and Efficient
2) Ideally be a gaming/Media PC
3) Am not looking to overclock anytime soon, though it is certainly an option.
4) USB 3.0 ready

I also understand that if i go a 2011pin Mobo, ill need a new CPU, so any suggestions there would be helpfull as im at a loss as to what i get. Ive researched a fair bit, but i think my brain is now in overload and i cant decide what i want.

Was thinking if i upgrade to a 2011 Mobo, the Sabertooth x79 looks the most appealing to me, and ive heard nothing but good things about it!

Power Supply: TX850w Corsair Psu
GPU: SLI gtx 2gb PaLIt 560's
CPU: Intel i7-2600
Ram: Transcend 4gb x 4 DDR3 1333Mhz
O/s: Win 7 Home Premium
Storage: Samsung 3.5 HDD 2TB & 240gig SSD OCZ Agility 3 (win installed on ssd)
Case: Corsair Graphite CC600TM Black

At this point im thinking
2011pin - Sabertooth x79 + i7-3930K
1155pin - ?? + 2600k.

Any suggestions would help me greatly
Thank you in advance!

More about 1155 2011
  1. If the board is otherwise still working, I'd simply stick a discrete sound card in it.

You will not get much benefit from LGA2011 unless you either use some extremely memory-bandwidth heavy programs, need more than 32GB RAM or run some massively threaded applications. The only current game that sort of makes use of high thread count is BF3 and I doubt there will be many games joining it in the foreseeable future.
  2. well i play bf3 alot but if thats it then it would be wise for me to stick to a 1155 board then.

Any suggestions as i cant stick a sound card in? My 2 gpu's block over the express slot the sound goes in unfortunately.

Would you suggest the Maximus V Gene as a better mobo?

Another possibility would be using USB sound.

As for motherboards, you could have a quick look at THG's review of some sub-$160 z77 boards that came out today for inspiration.
  4. i think if i were to get a z77 after carefull consideration i think id have to go sabertooth z77
