Cant decide which GPU for my resolution

Why upgrade from your 6870? At that resolution you are pushing half the pixels of 1920x1080. (1 million vs 2.1 million) So performance should be fine.

To be honest, at that resolution, the 6870 will do fine for almost anything since games are more CPU bound than GPU bound.

What are your system specs? Maybe you're not getting performance you like due to some other component (most likely CPU).

With the money you saved up for a 7870, even a 7850, you could get yourself a new CPU and Mobo and get much better performance.

The performance is fine Im just one of those people who like to upgrade when I can

I have a FX-4100 @ 4GHZ
8GB RAM
and the hd 6870
1TB HDD

Personally I feel you getting a 7850 or 7870 would be a waste of money. Maybe invest in a new higher res monitor?

Though if you MUST get a new GPU, 7850 would get my vote since it's the cheaper of the two...save you some money.  

Do you think the 6870 will be good for crysis 3 next year at this resolution? The reason I dont have a bigger monitor is my room size its not exactly big. Im mostly wanting to upgrading for future games as well.

I agree, get a new monitor or an SSD.

It should perform fine for Crysis 3 at that resolution. You'll only really start pushing the 6870 when you're using resolutions like 1600x900, 1920x1080 and higher.

Considering the short life cycle for GPUs, buying current hardware for future games is a bad choice. When Crysis 3 does come out the 7870 will have had a price drop.

if thats the case, then why not upgrade the display? I upgraded mine from 1440x990 to 1920x1080 and can't even think about going back!

My 560 Ti is still a great card, but for the same price today, the 7850 will smack it around like twigs.

If anything's holding you back (in the future), it's the FX-4100. At lower resolutions (such as 1366x768), the CPU is loaded pretty heavily, and the FX-4100 just isn't that great. I say save your money, and upgrade the CPU once Piledriver is released.

Oh definitly   I plan to upgrade to piledriver once its released. But for now the 4100 is good for me.
