Rb 6870 hawk with a gigabyte ga-965p-ds3p

Hi

I was given a rb6870 hawk for my birthday last week and when installed cant seem to get it to even power on my monitor. Fresh copy of windows xp pro installed, no previous pci graphics card drivers.

Mobo is a GA-965P-DS3P
Power supply is an Antec BP500U 500 watt

Any suggestions on what i can try?

Is this card not backwards compatible with my mobo?

Im stumped!
