die sony die... cactus... the bane of illegal reproduction of cds... a little question for you then sony if the "noise" is not played back but only damages reproductions cant you do a different type of reproduction not bothering to encode as mp3 but putting a line directly from your line out to your line in and then encoding as mp3 and burning... wouldnt that work as you are just taking the harmless audio playback and then doing what you will with it?

Yes, you could. But it would take around an hour to record a typical CD, and then another couple minutes to encode it.
