Radeon HD 6850 or HD 7750 or XXXX for HTPC and Gaming ?

Dear Tom & Associates,

I have this at the moment

WIN 7 64-bit
GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H (rev. 1.0) (PCIe 2.0 ?)
G-SKILL 2x2 GB
AMD II x2 240 regor @ 3.5 GHz
PSU ANTEC basic 350w
Cooler Master Elite 360

I am interested in HTPC applications, but would like to have some gaming power as well for games such as FIFA 2012.

The Radeon HD 6850 seems like a powerful enought card, but they come with fans with make noise.
On the other hand there is SAPPHIRE HD 7750 ULTIMATE which comes fanless. So the HD 7750 seems like the right choice. I am open to other suggestions at this point also.

If I would choose the HD 6850, then I can make settings so that when watching a movie, I put the fan off or @ very low RPMs - off would be ideal? And if playing a game, put the settings on full power and fan speed control.

Watching a movie does not require a lot of power from the HD 6850 even with full settings of MadVR and LAV (correct ?) so the fan can be switched off and maybe do some underclocking? I don't care about switching b/w settings, but when watchin a movie, the PC needs to be quiet.

Pls give comments to above, and if you have a better card in mind from power/bang for the buck point of view, pls share info.

Thanks in advance.

Games such as FIFA 12 does not take much of graphics power. 7750 will run it perfectly. It will also be fine for HTPC duties.

The price difference b/w HD 7750 and HD 6850 is not big so why not get the HD 6850 and adjust the fan control to 0% before temps hit 75°C ?

Does MadVR + lav filters really draw up so much performance that a HD 6850 couldn't output 1080p with max settings and without fan cooling?

Power consumption and heat! I would rather get something cooler and less power hungry which is fine for you rather than getting something more expensive that dissipates more heat and take more electricity.

Thanks, you're probably right.

I'll just buy a gaming pc in addition to that HTPC I already have.
I've just got too much cash that I need to get rid of before this Fiat ponzi really hits the fan.

But if you really don't need the power of the 6850, and you buy it, you're wasting its power... In case you are really confident that 6850 is what you need.

i would reccomend the 7770, it's marginally more than the 7750, performs much better, and draws less power than the 6850. With a OC, it will run much better than the 6850

Does it come passive for HTPC use or can the noise be put to near 0dB when running MadVR + Lav + Reclock ?

Just ordered the 7750 ultimate. Thanks for your help.

I should change the thread to a question - however I get this:
"You are not allowed to edit this message! "

So can't do it :( .

Anyway...my card arrived yesterday.

It fits my Cooler Master Elite 360 case, but I think there is about 1-2mm space b/w the heatsink and case :) .

I have LAV filters in DXVA copy-back mode, ffdshow raw filter with deband + madvr.
In addition I use Reclock wit WASAPI for bitstreaming audio and Powerstrip for adjusting the card to match the display device (Epson projector).

Flawless playback with no dropped frames.
CPU usage is now around 20% iso 65% - 100% with the IGP.
Temps are low @ GPU & CPU => low noise.

Haven't tried any games yet, but for HTPC use this is a perfect upgrade from an IGP I bought like 2 years ago.
