A few companies has released 24/10/40 CD-RW drives (IDE interface, of course,) like Plextor, TDK...... These should be the fastest CD-RW drive currently out in the market, and they both use the same read/write Laser head and feature Sanyo's BURN-Proof technology. But the two obviosuly differ quite a lot in terms of bundled softwares.

Personally, I'd go with Plextor 24/10/40... I'm a long-time Plextor fan... (reliable, fast, and great tech support.) And I think Plextor is better in terms of Firmware upgrading. But one of my friend just bought the TDK 24X CDRW drive, and he's very satisfied with its performance. You can find information of the drive on Plextor or TDK websites easily.

I believe the Plextor and TDK mentioned above are both very similar drives... and they're both great ones too.
