IT depends more on your CPU!

GTA 4 is really CPU-dependent. A GTX 260 would probably be able to max it out, but only if it's paired with a big, beefy quad-core.

Unlike most games, GTA4 needs a powerful CPU. It's a console port, and they did an awful job porting it, so there is a ton of inefficiency your computer needs to make up for. In general, you need a pretty decent quad core to get good performance out of it. Anything from the mid range or better that was made since 2010 should be fine.

Worry about visual enhancement mods if your system is getting 60+ FPS at max settings. If it's not, then you're just going to make the performance even worse and the game won't be enjoyable. Who cares how nice the game looks if it's a slide show?

What you're asking isn't possible with a budget system. Unless you're planning on spending $1k on upgrades, forget about it.

With that card and cpu you should be able to run it at high-ish settings with decent framerates, forget about icenhancer though.

you might as well get the new generation of intel processors. No use spending that much money on outdated products

Is there any cpu I could get without changing the graphics card?

I do not want to spend more than I have to. Budget is around 400 dollars, but I will go higher.

I recommend at least 2GB of RAM on whatever powerful graphic card you want to buy. Yes, it will use more than 1GB of video RAM even at 1920x1080 resolution.

So I will need a motherboard? I have one but forget what it is. Is there a way to tell without taking my comp apart?

Why was this topic re-opened? And is it worth buying all that just for icenhancer? Would it enable me to play other games like crysis 2 with graphic mods maxed out?

I'd have gotten a more powerful graphics card instead and overclocked the 4-core athlon a bit, it's already good enough for gaming still as it's a phenom II just with no L3, and yes in order to max out the shadows and drawing distance you will need about 2gb VRAM, so that 7770 won't do. Also icenhancer is much more heavy on the gpu than it is on the cpu so you'd benefit more from a better graphics card than a faster cpu.

If I were you as you said you had $400 to spend I'd get a 7950 and OC the athlon some, there won't be much of a bottleneck either. The rig'd last you at least a few more years playing the latest games (not necessarily at max settings, depends on what resolution you have) without having to upgrade much.

Still the 2500k will give you a nice improvement in overall performance and boost your framerates, BUT you won't be able to max GTAIV due to not enough VRAM on the 7770, even if you play at a lower resolution.

Would this be a good enough graphics card? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Is there any card that can for under 200 dollars. I still have the same quad core. Ask me if you need my other specs.

Thanks. I can't trust ebay though. I have had bad experiences with same stuff, even with high feedback. See I want a card that can play Crysis 2 max, gta 4 max.... Do you know any max $200. (paycheck arrived).

I know. I just want a card that can play most game maxed out. Gta 4 is one I play tons, so is crysis 2. The card I have now is the worst ever(Geforce 8400GS) and needs an upgrade. I have been looking, and a benchmark said that a amd radeon hd 7850 and 7870 get 60 fps +. Could those possibly run icenhancer?

Why would you want to pay GTAIV on max anyway, it still looks like crap.

I love GTAIV to death, but not because of the iceenhancer mod, I don't care about the mods. I really enjoy the great gameplay and one of the greatest storylines I have ever played.

My overclocked and unlocked HD6950 with my 2500K at 4.5GHz handles it at full graphics, but the graphics card is running at almost full workload though. You are going to need some heavy hardware to run the game, as I benchmark just a hair over 60fps.

Not to mention you are going to need some serious power to run icenhancer as well. Personally, I play with the vanilla version of GTAIV.

If you want something that is going to be able to play GTAIV on the highest it goes with the mod, you are going to have to pay northwards of $1000 in upgrades. If you overclock the processor you have, I'm assuming an Athlon X4, you could probably play it on high with a decent graphics card.

I get like 15-20 fps overclocked. That is why I was asking about these questions.

What is the gpu you have now? I seem to have missed it, and the Athlon will hold you back, as GTAIV will hold many many computers back.

Is icenhancer completely necessary? You might want to not use it until you get a brand new computer.

Right now, I have a Geforce 8400GS. I plan on getting a new gpu soon.
