Hello,
I'm trying to fit the guts of an old laptop into the case of an old Atari 2600. The motherboard etc of the laptop fit perfectly but the hard drive connects on the edge and overhangs the case, there is plenty of room above and below the motherboard so I am hoping to somehow extend the hdd connection and place the hdd on top of the motherboard.
It's a 44 pin connection. Is it possible to extend this with a length of IDE cable? If so can anyone tell me how I need to modify the cable to work or suggest any other way of extending the hard drive connection?

Many thanks :)

Thanks for that...

Lol, please share your suggestion Chainzsaw, I have tried a similar cable as the one posted above, with a male to female adapter to connect it to the mobo but the hdd doesn't seem to be getting any power at all.

If you need male on one side and female on the other, then maybe this one will work:

Was the cable you tried 44 pin or 40? A laptop ide cable should have the extra 4 pins for power..

You can use a laptop drive on a standard motherboard and standard ide cable and power supply connector with an adapter like the following, but that's not the direction you're trying to go
