I'm looking to budget myself on the CPU.
This in my area is around £70/$112 cheaper for the 6300.

I really would like to play BF3 mainly on Ultra-High with no issues and because I am a Film Student, I will be using the crap out of it with rendering and editing.

I know the i5-3570k is good and the i7 is much better for what I need, I just dont have the money for it, and I'm hoping I could go out spend less and Overclock it.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/699?vs=701<- tested non overclocked. for a guide

Its s a rough compare its hard to say how much performance you will get. but games like BF3 are cpu games that can use all your cores so the 8350 is about = to if not slightly ahead of the i5 3570k.

the 8 cores on the 8350 are not by any means equivalent to the 4 cores of the i5, they are nonexistatnt cores, the i5 > 8350, THE BULLDozer series was a momemtous failure.

Although the i5 can beat the fx 8350 in many applications (single threaded workloads) the fx is ideal for rendering and editing, no doubt in my mind the fx will best the i5 in that field, most importantly this is want the OP will be doing. As far as gaming is concerned the fx 8350 will do a satisfactory job compared to the i5.

To the OP, the 6300 is perfect for your needs and budget, it is definitely faster than the i3 in multi-threaded apps such as rendering and holds its own in gaming. It also can overclock pretty well (i have one) but there is just one trade off, It consumes much more power than the i3. But at the end of the day the fx 6300 offers phenomenal value for what's it worth.

Just buy the AMD you won't be let down. Both cpu's can do the same stuff. The i5 does it all a bit faster but honestly IMO not $112 worth of faster.

If you live by a Microcenter, you can get the i5 3570K for just a few bucks more than an FX 6300. I just built a computer for a friend last week and it was $169.99 USD
