AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black vs FX 6300?

Planning on building a system and can't decide between these two CPU's. I know the 955 is older, has two less cores, and is clocked slower but its also ~40$ cheaper. Would the 955 bottleneck an HD 7850? I could always upgrade to the fx-6300 in the future anyways once the 955 gets too outdated. Any opinions?

955 and the 955 will not bottleneck the hd 7850

I say FX 6300 - futureproof yourself a little, and it has much better overclocking headroom.

It just beat out the 955 in all those charts, plus it's more power efficient than a 955

You read it wrong - some of those charts say "the higher the better"

Would you say a 955 works for the time being though? I could always upgrade to a 6300 (or higher) in the future as soon as the 955 becomes obsolete.

I say its better just to go FX 8350 in that case - why would you wanna spend 80$ for a CPU now, just to spend 140$ later on?

I have a pretty strict budget of 750$ for my build and to get an fx 6300 I would have to cut some corners in other places. This is the build I was considering http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rJyW

Hm, I would get a HAF 912 from newegg - good case for 60$, lots of slots and space. And just get Windows 8, a lot cheaper.

I was pretty set on all of my other parts which is why I think i'll just go with the 955. Thank you for the help though, I realize the 6300 is probably the better choice. Just doesn't fit in my budget right now

Could always wait a few weeks - but either way, its a nice rig. Good luck, and happy computing!
