Strange problems

I just got this new laptop this past Christmas and it work great for about a week. One day I plugged in my power cable and my laptop froze and had these weird horizontal static looking lines for about 2-3 seconds and then blue screen with no problems. Now ever since that day my laptop will hang and freeze randomly and get those static lines and sometime BSOD irql not less or equal. And a new symptom emerged about a month ago. If I let the computer be idle for more than 5 minutes it freezes and I have to hold the power button to turn it off. When I boot in safe mode i haven't had any of those problems yet.

Do you still have it under warranty? I'd suggest returning it and getting a new laptop if its starting to do that to you.

You should have returned it the first time it screwed up.

sound like one of the ram dimms are bad or not seated. if you know how to take the battery out of the bottom and then open the ram port on the bottom of the unit. i would reseat the ram. if it still errors out then i would send it into hp.
