I agree. They are FAR too close to center.
A significant lapse by Canon.

I dunno, they look OK to me, if you are going to make do with 9 sensors
.... I'm kind of used to 45 sensors now so I can move the focus point
around to an eye quickly, like this shot showing the AF points (the red
ones are active) ...
http://members.aol.com/bhilton665/bunny_af.jpg ... the edge sensors in
this design seem about the same place in the frame as the 5D sensors
did in the PDF file shots.
BTW, the white paper also seems to confirm existence of the 1D Mark II
n at $4,000 by mentioning it a couple of times as another "new" Canon
body, though they didn't say what features it will have, ie, full frame
at 12 Mpix or 1.3x at 12 Mpix or ???

Compared with the AF sensors in my 10D, they are clearly farther away from
the right and left edges of the screen. They are likely similar, if not
identical, to the 20D.

Same mistake made by Nikon on the F6. Apparently, they didn't stretch the AF
area to accomodate FF. Bad move.

I thought of that, and it does make sense, since they took the unit right
out of the 20D.

heheh, I feel like they are too far from the center...different usages. I
miss the points between the center and the ends that the 5 sensor cameras
had.

The white paper says the outside points are in the same place as on the 1DS
MkII. Maybe the diagram in the white paper is wrong, i.e., not to scale. If
they are as far out as on my older 1D they should be fine, but maybe the 1DS
is different?
