animated gifs

Hi,

I'm finding that while animated gifs work correctly using IE when
testing new pages on my hard drive they are different when viewed on
line. I get a still picture with no animation.

Presumably I've got a setting wrong in Security or Options somewhere but
I don't know which one it is.

Can anybody help please?

Your question isn't making sense. I think you said they work OK in IE but
not in someting else? Whatever you use to view them has to have the ability
to play them, it's that simple. If not, all they do is show the first frame
of the gif.
But, not knowing what you mean, have nothing more useful to add.

Right, thanks for pointing this out...

If I view a page in IE with what I know is an animated gif on it, and
that page is on my hard drive - I see the animation.

If I upload that same page to my website the same animated gif in IE now
only, as you say, shows the first frame and does not animate.

I'm assuming a security setting or an internet option somewhere is set
wrong that somehow allows this distinction but I'm blowed if I can pick
out which one it is.

Is that clearer now?

Yup, it sure is; only, darned if I can figure out what to set. About all
I'm sure of is you might be right about the settings: Spent about half an
hour trying to duplicate it; no success. If they work from the drive, they
work from my web site and vice-versa.
I ass-u-me -other- gifs on other sites work, right? That's the confusing
part. Maybe it's something to do with the server itself? Hope someone
jumps in here; I'm curious myself, now!

LONGSHOT....

Make sure you use lower case in the filename of the gif and any reference to
it in your html.
