Thermal Paste question, Need some help

Okay, so I have never put a PC together but i plan on doing it this Christmas break, my question. I plan on upgrading my mobo from an HP factory mobo to http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007R21JJK/ref=gno_car... with my i7 2600, my question is how do I apply thermal paste(Didn't know what it really was until about a week ago) Or do i even need it on my processor? and is this a good one? any help is Very appreciated. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002VFXFE/ref=s9_simh...
