My brother and I found a computer in a skip at our school yesterday. On it was written 'repair exceeds replacement cost' in permanent marker. We took it home anyway and booted it plugged into our tv. It just sat on the windows loading screen. We wiped its harddrive and installed windows 7 on it. It works fine now. The graphics are rated 2.1 (gaming graphics 3.1) in windows experience index and the processor is rated 4.2.
We took it apart and inside was
1 1GB stick (ddr2 PC2-5300) ram
A Celeron 440 2.00ghz
the graphics chip seemed to be on the motherboard under a heatsink (nothing was written on it)
an 80gb 7200rpm barracuda
and a psu rated at 240w max
We have now decided to use it as a media center.
My question is: it it worth getting a Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 at 2.6ghz for $100 for it (would it work), and if we bought a Radeon HD 7750 (the motherboard has 1 pcie16x slot) for it would we need a bigger psu?
