Or would I even need a sound card?
I have this motherboard.
I'm just wondering what would get the best performance out of the Corsair SP2500 2.1 speaker set.

All motherboards come with onboard audio chip. Discrete sound cards are mostly useless for the average customer. Unless you are a music producer, composer and you have really really good speakers I don't see the point of buying an expensive sound card.

Asus Xonar has the best sound cards. The low end is about $50.
