Processor help for a budget gaming rig

I'm not the greatest when it comes to dealing with processors and such so i thought i would ask the pros here =)
First off this is for a budget gaming rig.

The motherboard is:
BIOSTAR TA970XE AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138348&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-NA-_-NA

I'm stuck between these two processors:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 AM3 3.4Ghz 512KB 45NM 125W 4000MHZ

http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Phenom-3-4Ghz-512KB-4000MHZ/dp/B002SRQ214

AMD Phenom II X6 1045T 2.70GHz AM3 Processor

http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Phenom-3-4Ghz-512KB-4000MHZ/dp/B002SRQ214

Which of these two processors would be a better buy? Any help is appreciated :)

More about processor budget gaming
  1. as the 6 cores of the AMD Phenom II X6 1045T dont come into play in gaming

the AMD Phenom II X4 965 AM3 3.4Ghz should be better for gaming

also i think its a black edition so unlocked multiplier
  2. Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums,
Quite frankly, the additional two cores of the 1045 aren't really of use when gaming. The higher CPU frequncy of the 965 will be of use.
Personally here, I would get the 965.

How is this setup working for you? I have the same motherboard and the same processor but have been having numerous Windows BSODs which I cannot seem to resolve.
  4. If I were you, I would rather get FX 4300 or FX 6300 even though they're more expensive (not by much), but they also provide way better performance.
  5. Fx 6300 is IMO the best gaming chip from amd it's only $10 more than the 4300 so it's priced nicely and games don't need the 8 cores on the 8320/50. Get the 6300 or if your really need to save money the 4300 is fine too
