Sound card options for Asus Maximus V Gene

It has onboard HD audio, but will it be as good as my asus xonar dg?

The board only has 2 pci-e 3.0 slots and 1 pci-e 2.0 x4. What cards will fit in these slots?

No, the DG would be a step up over any onboard solution.

Since you don't have any PCI slots, you are limited to PCI-E cards. The DGX and DX are probably the two competing options if you don't have any high grade audio gear.
