Hello,
we know that hd 7970 can output 3.7 TFLOPS Single Precision compute power and gtx 680 has about 2.5 TFLOPS Single Precision compute power . But if the hd 7970has more power than gtx 680 - then why does games runs better on gtx 680??

You're missing things up. The compute power doesn't mean game performance - in this particular matter, it's referred as General Purpose Graphics Processing Unit Computing - in other words, it's having programs that have nothing to do with graphics run on your GPU instead of your CPU.

If you would measure gaming performance - the GTX 680 has higher compute performance for gaming than HD 7970.

Power is not everything. The combination of drivers and hardware architecture for the whole card combine to perform certain tasks better without as much raw power because of better optimization. This is why AMD cards are usually more powerfull in terms of computational power but weaker in terms of performance for real world task compared to nvidia. I am not knowedgeable enough to have an in depth discussion but someone more qualified could tell you the details.

P.S. I hate PhysX

Actually Nvidia has Cuda power which makes it a better computational card than AMD.
