Hi folks,
I'm looking for some quality advice on a system.
I'm in the need for a workhorse system that can be expanded as needed. I working in the geospatial industry and use very large datasets as well as very large imagery files. We also do quite a bit with pointcloud data and 3d modeling. All of which take tons of time to render, process and just plain old work with. I leave projects run over night to process and often things fail to run at all, just because of the lack of resources.
I'm not too impressed the Intel Core IMac my father is running... I had it chew on a photo to point cloud rendering and it was definitely taxing his system. Though that's my only experience with the Ix core based systems.
I'm looking for a system in the $2500 to $3500 range though I'm flexible on top end range if the ROI is justified. IE "if it can seriously cut the time involved for processing." IE dual socket 6 or 8 core xeons
To start I'm looking at 32 to 64gb of ram. The GPU would likely be nvidia quadro of some sort, maybe the 4000 at the higher end.
I would likely use all SSD III. I don't know about RAID... never used or built anything with it.
Thats all I have ideas on... Any thoughts?
