Ralph, who had been pacing the edge of the water, barked towards Joshua. Jos
hua quivered for a second, then shot an arc of water at Ralph, who took it b
roadside on the flank. He reared up slightly, barked again, and then charged
into the water after Joshua. They splashed around with each other for sever
al minutes. It was the happiest I'd seen Ralph be in years.
"I disconnected my phone," I said. My own call waiting was going off like ma
d, making the phone sound like a Geiger counter.
"It's latex," Van Doren said. "I'm getting a latex mask done for this stupid
movie I'm doing. The woman who's putting the mask on me is a real bitch. A
minute ago she tried to make Miranda leave. Miranda stood up to her, and she
's talking to her now about something else."
