Hey guys, clearly I'm a noob at this, so please dont expect much from my question. So when i press CTRL+ALT+delete and go to the "Performance" tab, i only see 4 boxes...In my friends computer he has 8 boxes. I think this is 4 physical cores and 4 virtual cores. I have an intel i5 3570k processor. Shouldn't i have 8 boxes like him? He has an i7 2600k i believe.

It looks something like this, http://static.techspot.com/articles-info/305/bench/Core.png.

Solution
i5 has 4 cores and 4 threads, the i7 has 4 cores and 8 threads.

He has 8 boxes because he has 8 threads, you only have 4 threads so you only get 4 boxes.

You only have four threads, therefore four boxes. A "thread" refers to how many possible processes can occur at a time. Each core has at least a single thread. Your CPU has four cores, one thread each.

Instead of being concerned that you don't have HyperThreading be happy that you selected a Core i5 instead of a Core i3 with HyperThreading (which would also appear as 4 concurrent threads processing time-slices).

You have FOUR 'REAL' CPU CORES, this is generally considered a good thing.
- You also have less Resource Contention within those cores than the Core i7.
