There are huge holes in my graphics for some games, but not others!?

So I have an older laptop with an ATI/AMD Radeon HD 4200, and I'm having a strange issue. Last month I bought Diablo III and for s**ts and giggles thought I would install it on my laptop. When It loaded and I logged in, there were huge holes in the graphics of the game. I could walk over them and nothing would happen, but at random chunks of the world were just gone. I chalked it up to the game being too new, plus CanIRunIt.com said I shouldn't be able to anyway, and I forgot about it.

Well the other day the wife decided she wanted to try RIFT, and threw it on the laptop. CanIRunIt.com as well as the box for the game says I should be able to run the minimum specs without any problem, but the same issue is popping up. I have huge holes everywhere, worse than Diablo.

Now here's where things start to unravel. I thought maybe it was my integrated graphics going bad, and I was seeing artifacting. However, when I play City of Heroes or Dungeons & Dragons Online, I don't have any issues at all. I thought It was a driver issue and uninstalled the driver, deleted it from the system, and re-installed and no luck. I thought it might be Direct X, but it's up to date. The only thing I can think of is my PSU or GPU is dying and I'm having issues from it, but why only those two games?

The laptop sits on a wood tray I made for easy use. It doesn't get too hot, and has the problem even after I just turn it on.

I did read somewhere someone had an issue with the same card where the system wasn't allocating enough VRAM from the shared RAM. Everyone told him to go into the BIOS and change the settings, but most laptops tend to have a limited BIOS. I updated my BIOS, and I still don't have an option to change how much RAM is allocated.

All that in mind, my DXDiag reads:

Display Memory: 1978 MB
Dedicated Memory: 316 MB
Shared Memory: 1662 MB

Even if it's not sharing memory correctly, 316 MB should be enough for RIFT, right?

I'm going to try to roll back to some legacy drivers, see if they messed with the HyperMemory in the newest set.

Um, Rift and D3 are both games out in the last year or so, the other 2 are what 3 or 4 years old? Just cause it says it can run on minimum specs doesnt mean its gonna run flawlessly. Update your video drivers, otherwise, upgrade your hardware.

Alright, so rolling back my drivers did the trick. Yay!

Now I have a new problem. It was incredibly difficult to find the ancient drivers I DID find. Does anyone know a good website for legacy Radeon notebook drivers?
