2 wifi adapters 1 adhoc one wifi

Hello,
i know it is possible cause i have heard of this being done, but what trouble may i run into, any suggestions on how to make it run smoother. i have a device that connects to the pc over ad hoc network and using infrastucture on this device proves problematic, the device using ad hoc ties up my internet connection,so i have to switch back and forth, it is a desktop so i want to add another pci wireless card, do i need to find an adapter that uses a different driver for the adapter or will two identical devices work in harmony once configured

based on my experience with video cards I would use network cards based on different chipsets which in turn use different drivers
