Atapi - incompatible ?

Hi,
I recently purchased a Yamaha CD Writer in Florida and was assured that I could use it in a pc in Ireland. However, upon installing it in my PC, the PC hangs at boot with the following message - "SEC IDE Fail - Atapi incompatible". I have installed it as master, cable select and slave on all IDE channels with and without other devices present and the message remains the same with the exception of the IDE fail bit which changes depending on the channel I'm using. In addition, the power led remains on. Any ideas ? Appreciate your help........Enda

It has to do with your BIOS settings. Try changing it to something other then what it is. My guess would be that it's set to either 'Auto' or 'User' and you can change it to 'Cd Rom'. Or if it's already set to 'Cd Rom' then I would change it to 'Auto'.

Hope that resolves your problem ...

Thanks Lars,
I have tried it with Auto and CDRom with the same result - i.e. Nothing !
