Here are a few pictures of our very first family computer. Built back in 1998, I was only 7 or 8 years old at the time. It cost over $1000 back then!!! CPU is an AMD K6/2. I'm trying to get this desktop back to life... if I hook it up to a monitor, describe the posts and beeps, maybe you guys can help me get it running.

I found a receipt for a computer I bought like 10 years ago, the specs were something like this (can't remember exact specifications) :

Case: Antec Beige Full Tower
PSU: Generic 400W
Motherboard: MSI Intel something
CPU: 900MHz Intel Pentium
RAM: 2GB
HD: 80GB IDE
Optical: Generic CD-ROM burner
Video Card: 16MB ATI
Operating System: Windows 2000
Monitor: Viewsonic 15" CRT

Cost: $1,002.98

My current build is in my signature.

My first computer was a Micro Express 386SX-20 with 2 MB RAM and either 40 or 60 MB HDD....around 1990 or so. Yes, that's megabytes, not gigabytes back then. I am guessing that the cost was a couple of grand.

I believe back then comparing AMD and Intel was very simple? For example, this AMD K6/2 can run at max of 500Mhz while your Pentium runs at 900Mhz... so your Pentium is definitely better than that K6/2?

My next computer was an old Pentium 4, still running. Been using it the whole time up until the point I built my new rig a month ago.

It's been so long I don't remember. But yeah back then there wasn't a whole lot of difference.

My next computer after that was a Powerbook G4 that I still have and it still works despite that the DVD burner died on it.
