I was checking out the Sager NP2720 model through powernoterbooks.com, and I saw this statement: "Dolby Digital 5.1 SPDIF Port Will accept either Optical or Coaxial Cable".
My question is: is it possible for one S/PDIF port to accept both optical and coaxial cable?
Thank you in advance! Details cab be found here: <A HREF="http://www.powernotebooks.com/2720specs.php3" target="_new">http://www.powernotebooks.com/2720specs.php3</A>
I gots one. It definately has optical out as a little red light shines out the back all the time. I am not fimiliar with the coax term. In my day we had stereo and quad all carried on "rca" style connectors. What is coax?
BTW I know coax is a round shielded cable, I'm asking in reguard to audio.

Without getting too technical, a coax audio cable is much like the standard "rca" style connecters, but generally can carry a wider bandwidth, which means it's better for multi-channel digital audio.
That's not to say that an "rca" cable won't work with a coax connector.
Ok my buddy Bill just got this sweet a$$ Sager 56xx with a 2.8GHz p4 and a Radeon 9000. Downloading 3dmark right now.
Anyways Looking into the optical sound out port you can see electrical connectors too. Coax must use something like a headphone jack connector correct?
