Is there a way to keep the display on longer on the 6600 - I'm sure it will
use up more battery, but at this time it's on for about 15 seconds then goes
dim.. this is "OK", but if I could keep it on for 25-30 seconds I'd like to
try this.

As far as I know it is not possible to change it, it is set to 15 secs by
default.

Menu > Settings > Phone settings > Display then adjust Brightness and
Timeout (slider from 1 to 30 min)

On my 6600 that setting is for the Screen Saver not the display lighting

Yes, it's for screensaver, not the lightening.
