CPU thermal Gel

I was just curious as to what the best method is to applying thermal paste on your CPU as in whether to do an X or a small circle

I just do a blob in the middle and let the heat sink spread it out.

Does the whole cpu face need to be covered or just the middle?

Just the middle the cooler will spread it out.
