Switches

Solution

The S3900 is a multilayer switch, meaning that it operates on L2, but also provides functions for higher layers in the OSI model. This specific switch series offers L2/3 switching for all ports, with the ability to identify and process traffic of applications from L2 and the way to L7. So, you would be able to use this switch in conjunction with other higher level devices.

Thank you.My dilemma comes from the fact of a LAN which has Huawei Quidway S5000 series switch patched to a Huawei Quidway S3900 series switch, via optic fiber cabling, acting as the Core Switch of the LAN.
Is the S3900 series strictly a Layer 2 or could it be also in combination of Layer 2/3?
