Monitor won't display

Hi I have just purchased a new pc and the monitor won't display anything when the power is turned on, the light and fans go on the actual tower but nothing happens on the screen.

I have tried:

Removing the ram and switching them round as well as trying with one stick of ram
I have also removed the graphics card and re-entered it in the board

In desperate need of help

Are you using onboard graphics or a discrete ? Make sure to plug the cable from the monitor into the discrete card if you installed one of those. Also, double check the monitor settings to make sure the input source is selected to whatever cable you are using (DVI, HDMI, VGA, etc).
