Monitor says cant find signal

I have connected a second screen to my computer with a hdmi lead but there is no signal on the monitor why

You may need to select the input on the monitor for HDMI. Your video card/output may not support dual output. Bad cable.

What trouble shooting have you already done? Have you done the basics?

Reseated cables
Rebooted
Used known working cables.

Since this is a second monitor if you swap the cables with the monitor of the first does it work?
Like the previous poster said confirm your input settings.

I would also try swapping your working monitor to the port that giving you problems to confirm that the port itself is working if none of the above worked.
