New Computer is lagging!! Help!

Hello! I just recently built my first computer, and it was working fine for the first few days. But now it appears to be really laggy. The mouse jumps, the audio skips. The only thing thats really changed is getting the windows updates. It happens when playing games and when i'm just on the desktop. I turned fraps on during a game and the framerate didn't appear to go below 30.

i5 3570k
gigabyte z77-DS3H motherboard
8 gigs corsair vengeance ram
HIS Radeon 7870
Windows 7 64 bit

The only part I didn't buy new was my harddrive. I just used the one from my old computer, but I didn't see lag listed as a result of a malfunctioning harddrive in a google search.

Any ideas on what could be causing the problem?

try removing/disabling all the network see if that changes anything.

Chances are there is some hardware interrupt that is messing with the computer.
Network can be along those lines, as you can't drop the packet.

Its a 650watt corsair

I'll try that, but how do I fix it if thats the problem?

Have you updated the driver for your 7870? Are you running the audio from the HDMI in the card? If you are then try uninstalling all the drivers for the card and get the latest Catalyst one, 12.6, sometimes Windows does mess up your drivers with its auto updates.
