Laptop CPU fan overheating.

I have a NP355V4C from Samsung - I've been very satisfied with the way it performs so far, it was definitely a great value buy.

But recently it's began to overheat and subsequently crash without prior warning whenever I run CPU-intensive games such as Assassin's Creed III and Far Cry 3, even Black Ops 2. I have a strong suspicion that this might be a problem with my CPU fan.

What I've noticed: when the computer's plugged in, it tends to crash faster; within 1 to 10 minutes. I suspect this is because I have set the CPU usage to maximum when plugged in. When I run it on battery, the games lag and I still crash, albeit between 15-30 minutes later.

What I've tried:
-downloaded + installed SpeedFan, to no avail (does not detect my fans)
-turned off the Silent Mode option that is available with the laptop
-took a look at my bios (has no options pertaining to fans)
-bought a cooling pad - worked well enough as a temporary solution, extends my time to about an hour, but beyond that it'll crash at random times
-*tried to* take apart the laptop and get to the fan - but couldn't. unscrewed everything I could and tried to pry it open, but the resistance makes me believe it wasn't meant to be pried open

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
