Actually, the new Plextor is a 24x. They're skipping 20x.

Fry's has a Que! 24x for $179 today, if anyone is interested. They're the same drive as the Yamaha's.

I've read in an article that the difference in speed between a 12x and 20x is very small. While burning a 650 mb file, the difference was only seconds between the two. An 8x burner and 4x burner, on the other hand, would have minutes between the two.
