My modem and D-Link DIR-855 were damaged from lightning today, so I am looking to get a new router. I have a fairly large 2 story house that I would need to cover. The two main options I'm looking at are 1. Getting another DIR-855 or 2. Getting a Linksys E4200. The DIR-855 had the range to cover most of the house, but lacked signal in the far ends. Would the E4200 do any better as far as speed and range? Also how do they compare in terms of durability?

Want an AP that will punch a hole through damn near anything? Buy this http://www.ubnt.com/picostation and connect it to you router and shut off your routers wifi access. I have this running outdoors and had connectivity through 1000' of dense wooded area from my cabin to my dock. You cna turn the power down in case you don't need that much penetration.......$89 US

Thanks, I've already purchased 4 WNDR4500 routers and configured them as WAPs with a PE1950 II running Untangle.

Untangle? I was introduced to it 6 months ago and was pleseantly surprised at how well it worked and how user friendly it was, for someone who never saw the interface before, to use.... A PE1950? LOL, that thing will be sleeping most of the time!!! A great way to use what you got!!!!

I received 35 PowerEdge 2950 III and 1950 II servers from a company. I ended up keeping a few and selling the rest. It pretty much just idles, that's enough hardware for a few hundred PCs! Lol
