Running XP Pro, WAV sounds for E-mail, startup, logoff etc. all system sounds
are not working. All other programs i.e. movies, music etc are fine. All
working as of a couple days ago, no major changes to system. Ideas?

Harold T.,
Have you check the following:

1. Double Click on Taskbar> Volume Control> Volume Control> Make sure under
the WAVE Column> MUTE box is Unchecked. Also make sure that the slider is
near max, or to your taste, under the WAVE column. OR:

2. Start> All Programs> Accessories> Entertainment> Volume Control> Make
sure under the WAVE Column> MUTE box is Unchecked. Also make sure that the
slider is near max, or to your taste, under the WAVE column.

3. If you have a keyboard that can control PC volume, make sure that it is
set to max, or your desired volume.

4. Under Control Panel> Sounds & Audio Devices> Sounds tab> make sure that
there is a *.wav file associated with the action, such as "New Mail
Notification".

5. If you have or updated third party media players such as RealPlayer, or
its variants (Rhapsody from Comcast is one), open the program, and make sure
that the volume slider is set to max. I had this problem, RealPlayer volume
slider seems to take control of the *.wav files sound.

6. If you changed your Theme for the PC, the new theme may have changed the
sound file associations for those actions. You may need to manually restore
those. By following the route taken in Item#4.
