Keeping old thermal paste?

I put my Corsair H60 on wrong, I took it off, and the thermal paste has left residue on the processor, can i keep the old and not clean/put new paste if im just flipping the cooler around?

Not a good idea unless you have no new paste..clean it all off and re-cement it...
